More Amour - Self Tanning Tricks!

Being a self confessed Fake Tan-Aholic I had to chat to Aime of Amour Make Up about what tan she uses and how she keeps herself looking fabulous even in Winter.

The Classy, Coy and Curious - Aime, what is your fake tan tips and which is your favourite to use?

Aime, Amour Make Up - Hi, my name is Aime Van Dyck and I’m a tanaholic!

From the time I was 15 years old it has been a great ambition of mine to obtain the perfect tan. Summer was dedicated to long days lying on the beach with a hat over my face – to protect my skin of course! For the few years following I continued to bake myself to the point where I was ridiculously brown. Oh how the times have changed and the freckles have faded! I still love to lie in the sun however the tanning oil has been replaced by 30+ sunscreen.

I remember getting my first spray tan 10 years ago. It was as though a whole new world had emerged with endless tanning possibilities. I became an advocate for slip, slop, slap and have never looked back. Why bake it when you can fake it?

I have tried and tested many fake tanning products, good and terribly bad. My number one favourite self tan is Ella Bache followed by St Tropez. I always wear disposable gloves when applying to avoid stained hands. Admittedly I have been rather lazy this year, only applying occasionally or getting a spray tan instead. A word of advice – if you find a fabulous spray tanner don’t ever let her go. I have had some shockers!

Remember, a bad fake tan is NOT better than being pale. Orange is never a good look so make sure you follow these steps to a bronzed, beautiful tan:

Exfoliate your skin with a gentle product and exfoliating glove to remove dead skin. This will ensure your tan is applied evenly and smoothly.

If you’re heading to get a spray tan remember to wear loose clothing and follow your tanner’s instructions regarding wash off time.

Don’t forget your face! I see so many girls that have had a spray tan and left their face white. The face will fade quicker due to cleansing and exfoliating so keep a tube of Ella Bache Face tanner in the cupboard to reapply every few days.

When you do shower keep the water luke warm, not hot as it will help the tan last longer.

Moisturise your body every time you step out of the shower until it is time to scrub the tan off.

When you do want to start again, soak in the tub to soften your skin and get it prepared to remove the tan. Get the exfoliating glove and scrub with some gentle product. I have a friend that has even used Jiff and Gumption to get rid of unwanted tan. DO NOT DO THIS!!! Your skin is very delicate and should be looked after very carefully!

One more tip – just because you’re feeling brown and beautiful this doesn’t mean you can forget the sunscreen. You will still burn and be exposed to harmful rays from the sun.

Good luck and safe tanning!
